I am blessed to have witnessed, firsthand, Soror Johnson’s dedication to Delta, poise in servant leadership and compassion for Sorors as a participant in the 2009-2011 Cohort of the Eastern Region’s E3 Leadership Development Program during Soror Johnson’s term as Eastern Regional Director. Soror Johnson’s vision to establish this program to energize, educate and empower Sorors between the ages of 22-30 has undoubtedly influenced and laid the framework for other leadership programs throughout the Sorority. Soror Johnson carefully curated a team of E3 leaders and mentors who shaped me and members of my cohort who now serve in various leadership roles within their Chapters and Regions throughout the Sorority.

Her ability to lead with both heart and strategy has created spaces where Sorors feel seen, supported and inspired to grow. I have had the pleasure of working alongside Soror Wendy Johnson on the National Membership Services Committee. Whilst under her leadership, I have noticed her keen attention to detail. Not only does she have an active interest in getting to know the sorors she works alongside, but she is constantly checking if they need help and how she can assist them. She always offers an ear for feedback and works with sorors to
implement their ideas. Soror Johnson also has a talent for recognizing sorors’ potential and not only giving them their flowers, but offering opportunities for them to spread their wings and develop their leadership skills. It is her leadership that allowed the Collegiate Connections Subcommittee to run focus groups throughout all 7 regions, the first activity of its kind. I have known Wendy since her initiation into the Kappa Epsilon Chapter of Florida State University. One of the many aspects I admire about her is her dedication to mentoring youth. She established a mentoring program, Youth Excel, for young women at her high school and initiated the E3 Leadership Development Program, a mentoring program for alumnae sorors ages 22-30 while she was Eastern Regional Director. I first met Wendy Johnson after she became Eastern Regional Director. I became a member of her Leadership Team when she appointed me as Connecticut State Coordinator. Soror Johnson arranged for workshops and training to prepare us to fulfill the responsibilities of our positions successfully. Soror Johnson has always been organized and thoughtful about what is needed to move things forward to carry out the
business of Delta Sigma Theta. She provided tools and guidance to help her team and the chapters of the region to conduct business effectively.
In addition to working together to conduct sorority business, we worked together closely to plan and facilitate the Eastern Regional Conference in Connecticut.
